Hello Fellow Candle Lovers!
Smell is the strongest sense tied to memory...
Have you ever smelled something, and instantly you were brought back to a certain time and place. You remember the event vividly, as if it just happened - every detail, in full color... Sometimes you get lost in this moment like a faint day dream.
Aroma triggers your brain...
...and then past moments are brought back to life! The smell of hot apple pie - fresh from the oven in grandmas kitchen? Patchouli Spice - experimenting in the 60's? French Lavender - your trip to France or your Auntie's Flower Garden? Clean Cotton - laundry flowing in the wind on the line out back as a kid? Sex on the Beach - your favorite drink in college? Slate and Stone - your husband the day you met him?
Aromas can cause effects on your physical being...
Remembering times past can also effect you physically, literally feeling the joy of childhood, the relaxation of a romantic moment, the warmth of the sunny day, the butterflies when you met the love of your life.
Aroma attracts people to certain candles...
When people are candle shopping, they are not only looking for a candle that smells good, they are looking for one that makes them feel good. This is why one person simply adores a scent that someone else may not be fond of. The scent has different memory triggers for them, bringing them to different moments in time.
Listen to your customers' comments...
I have heard so many comments from my candle sniffing customers, here are a few actual comments I remember! It shows exactly how scent relates to past events!
Slate and Stone - "OH this smells like MAN!"
Patchouli Spice - "LOL we used to burn patchouli to cover up the smell of....."
Sex On The Beach - "This smells EXACTLY like the drink - WOW!"
Mountain Pine - "This reminds me of camping..."
Coconuts and Lime - "Like my tropical sun oil (back when we could tan)!"
Cinnamon Raisin Bun - "This is like I'm walking past that store in the mall!"
Juicy Ripe Watermelon - "OMG have you ever had Jolly Ranchers?"
Maple Syrup - "This smells like I'll get sticky!"
Rain - "Kind of like that wet concrete fresh smell after it rains.."
Blueberry Muffin - "Remember those pens from when we were kids, you know we'd sniff them and then the end of our noses would be blue?"
Those are a few that stayed in my head, it is always so fun to hear what customers say while smelling all our true to life aromas!
